On Friday, Nov. 20, the New Britain School District was notified that one member from each of the DiLoreto Elementary and Middle School, New Britain High School, and Vance Elementary School communities had tested positive for COVID-19, according to the New Britain Herald.
The last days that infected people were in school were Nov. 12 (DiLoreto), 13 (Vance), and 17 (High School). Everyone who has tested positive will isolate for 10 days.
No closures were needed in the cases of DiLoreto and Vance because the city’s Public Health Department determined the sick people were not present in the schools when they were contagious, the Herald reported.
The same was not true at the high school. Students there transitioned to remote learning through the Thanksgiving break - not due to COVID-19, but due to shortages with the non-certified staff.
As schools have been closing and reopening, transitioning to hybrid and/or fully remote learning since September in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. In late September, Gov. Ned Lamont urged schools to stay open and in-classroom education available in the absence of an outbreak.
